Throughout the month of November, Lebanon Picture Frame & Fine Art Gallery will be presenting the works of an exceptional mother and daughter pair of Lebanon County artists, Sandra Dwyer-Gluszko and Victoria Gluszko. While nature is a shared source of inspiration for the Gluszko Family, each will be showcasing her own artistic style and unique interpretation. The Artists’ Reception will be held on November 5th, from 5 to 8 PM as part of the First Friday Art Walk of Downtown Lebanon.
Sandra Dwyer-Gluszko, an experienced graphic designer with a successful career, most notably as an art director for the fashion retailer Urban Outfitters, has been interested in fine art for the greater part of her life. Her fascination could be traced back to the time when she worked at the Philadelphia Museum of Art as a teenager and found inspiration in the many pieces of great art in its collection. Possessed by a keen interest in various materials and processes, Dwyer-Gluszko studied Industrial Design at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. The degree afforded her the opportunity to embark on an expansive design career, working with a variety of materials while satisfying her innate desire to make and to create. Inspiration often reveals itself to Dwyer-Gluszko when she connects with nature and its bounty. While gardening in her wooded Lebanon County home, or taking a long walk in the surrounding landscape, she can be found scanning the environment for interesting foliage and shapes. The happy union between her passion for creativity and love of gardening culminated in this latest body of work. Up until recently, the artist has worked primarily in a digital format; however, she has furthered her creative process by taking a pause from the digital while exploring new opportunities in the tangible. “This exhibit is an effort on my part to step away from the screen and get messy, creating originals instead of digital files,” remarked Dwyer-Gluszko. To further illustrate her passion for plants and horticulture, she has been a Lebanon County Master Gardener Volunteer for the past 16 years. “My favorite time of year is Spring when I get to see my plant friends/muse emerge again,” the artist said. This sentiment is evident in the various ghostly botanical imprints featured in this latest LPF exhibition. Her paintings, laden with delicate textures of subdued colors, are like a tribute to her favorite plants. The blurred, fog-like layers seem to evoke a distant memory of a favorite plant during the depths of winter and the longing to meet it again.
Victoria Gluszko, an outstanding artist in her own right, seems to have taken the subdued hues of Dwyer-Gluszko’s spectral imprints one generation further into a more conceptual, abstracted realm. The young artist also finds her inspiration in nature, but synthesizes those sources with the pursuit and expression of emotion through color and art. Gluszko has been working as a Legal Assistant in Lancaster, PA for the past four years since graduating from Lebanon Valley College with a degree in Environmental Philosophy. Even though she has not received formal training in art, she did have the opportunity to take art history and a course titled “Color and Culture”, which led to her exploration in color theory and the emotional effect that color has on individuals. Gluszko typically works with acrylic on paper but also enjoys drawing and experimenting with various techniques. Since graduation, the artist has focused solely on painting. She recently started a panel series focusing on expressing the “often difficult emotions and feelings that come with living in our modern world and within our modern issues.” This particular body of work currently on view, however, is centered on and inspired by the emotional connection to nature.
Lebanon Picture Frame & Fine Art Gallery has been serving the regional artistic community since 1999. Aside from professional and quality archival custom framing, its gallery regularly features exhibitions of local artists, as well as unique handcrafted gift items such as jewelry, paintings, ceramics, sculptures and more.
